Monkeying around in Krabi

Krabi Province, on southern Thailand’s Andaman coast, is a stunning combination of white sand beaches, emerald waters, coral reefs, intriguing caves and more than 130 islands. Today, tourists are being drawn here in search of the idyllic beach life that Phuket and Koh Samui offered a decade ago. The national parks of Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta are perfect for sailing, diving, snorkelling and kayaking; and people come from all over the world for the rock-climbing at Railey Beach. Krabi also features some of the most lush rainforests and photogenic sunsets in Thailand. In ancient times Krabi was one of the towns that had a monkey on its coat of arms, and you’ll see them everywhere. Beware though, as the minute you’re not looking these cheeky creatures will make off with all your belongings. On top of a mountain about 8 km outside Krabi town, you’ll find Wat Tham Sua (The Tiger Temple) one of the most famous temples in southern Thailand. Like Phuket, Krabi has a long wet season between May and November, when heavy rains can fall for days. Peak season is November through April. Krabi is around an hour and a half drive from Khao Lak.
